Portrait and offer

To mark the 100th anniversary of the awarding of the first honorary doctorate to a woman, the scientist and explorer Princess Therese of Bavaria (1850-1925), the Princess Therese of Bavaria Foundation for the Promotion of Women in Science was established by the University Women’s Representative in 1997. The foundation is an endowment to the University’s corporate assets, it is recognized by the tax office as a non-profit organization and is administered by the LMU Foundation Department. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees, which includes representatives of the LMU Presidential Board and the House of Wittelsbach, decides on the use of the funds. It is chaired by the University Women’s Representative.

The Princess Therese of Bavaria Foundation pursues exclusively and directly scientific purposes, in particular the awarding of the €10,000 Princess Therese of Bavaria Prize to up to 6 outstanding (young) female scientists at LMU every two years.
