As “district parliaments” in Munich, the district committees have a wide range of influence and decision-making powers for the respective district. Among other things, they are responsible for traffic planning, recreational areas, leisure facilities and district culture. The district committees promote and maintain the history of the district and decide on the initial granting of subsidies for associations and social initiatives in the district.
The district committees elect equal opportunities officers who promote the implementation of the European Charter for Equality between Women and Men at local level (European Charter) in the district, address equal opportunities issues for women and men in the district and support the elimination of grievances.
Citizens’ meetings are held once a year. The district committees are elected at the communal elections.

The city of Munich stands for an urban society without discrimination with equal opportunities for all. Equal rights are a constitutional principle, but the real implementation of this norm requires cooperation with civil society in addition to a state mandate. In Munich, there are a large number of organizations, institutions and projects that are involved in the task of implementing equal rights for women, men and people of other genders.
With this “Women’s Handbook Munich”, the Equal Opportunities Office for Women of the City of Munich offers an overview and information on where to turn with a specific concern. More information about the Equal Opportunities Office for Women can be found on our homepage.
