The AKA is a non-profit association in the east of Munich. It was founded in 1974 as a working group of the parishes of Haidhausen and has been a registered association since 1979. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of fellow citizens with a migrant background and to the understanding between all cultures in Germany.
Important principles of the AKA are
– to promote social recognition of the multicultural society that actually exists in Germany
– to campaign for legal, political and social equality and social participation of non-German citizens using democratic means
– to promote exchange and understanding between the individual cultures

The city of Munich stands for an urban society without discrimination with equal opportunities for all. Equal rights are a constitutional principle, but the real implementation of this norm requires cooperation with civil society in addition to a state mandate. In Munich, there are a large number of organizations, institutions and projects that are involved in the task of implementing equal rights for women, men and people of other genders.
