The network was founded in Munich in 1997 by Karin Maria Schertler. In 2001, the association was founded as webgrrls.de e.V.. There is a regional group in Bavaria.
webgrrls.de aims to connect women who work professionally in and for the new media. Women can make direct and uncomplicated contact with each other via the network. They can also establish business relationships and arrange jobs, internships and commissions.
webgrrls.de offers virtual exchange via several thematically organized mailing lists. Monthly regional meetings complement the offer with lectures, workshops and networking events. The webgrrls-Bayern offer a mentoring program to empower women.

The city of Munich stands for an urban society without discrimination with equal opportunities for all. Equal rights are a constitutional principle, but the real implementation of this norm requires cooperation with civil society in addition to a state mandate.
